Description

We’ve added Plumbs reupholstery service to our website because we believe they offer such a great service which is applicable to so many of us! Take your older furniture, reupholster it, and it really does transform into a new looking piece again!

We love green products so this feels a little like recycling to us. We see skips and refuse full of old furniture, and fabrics are often one of the first things to go on a piece that gets used a lot, and Plumbs will re-upholster your furniture at a lower cost than buying new (on the whole of course). I guess furniture is one of those industries where although you can buy really cheaply, there is a real value to buying durable, quality, and any older furniture tends to be less disposable than say a mobile phone, which has a shelf life of a couple of years.

Anyway, I digress. The Plumbs upholstery site offers a wealth of information relating to upholstery. It is really well presented and structured and has video clips from the MD about the history which is a nice personal touch to the site is apparent. There’s a history of upholstery, links to associated companies and fabrics so there’s nothing left to chance.

In terms of service there are a lot of testimonials which is a good sign. The network of upholsterers which they use have all of the associated skills with webbing, felting, wadding and other lovely traditional methods of re-uplostering. There is no way of making these types of furniture by machine and the all important coverings are no different. With 50 years of experience as a family run business I am sure you will agree that they have a lot to offer someone who is in need of some furniture TLC.

There’s a handy postcode search which introduces the sales person who would come round and talk to you about your project.  For me there are just a couple of gripes for what is otherwise a really successful website with excellent information. These are - there is no indication which I can find at all which shows even remote ball park figures for upholstery. Not a problem if you are aware of approximate costs, however it does leave a concern that the visiting sales person will fluctuate their prices according to each customer, which isn’t really what we want to see - however please put me right if I missed this!
The other terribly minor point is the lack of recycling information. We’d imagine there was a lot of room for recycling with this company and would like to see policies in place.

Anyway, whether you are simply repainting or renovating your property, you could probably save a bundle by repairing your older furniture rather than buying new, so we recommend paying Plumbs a visit! Thumbs up.
