As discussed in our directory page on lamp suppliers choosing a light fitting today is very much about what lamp it uses as well as the effect it will have on our home interior.
Light fittings have been around for centuries now, with the invention of electricity enjoying a massive rise in popularity, and lighting is clearly now here to stay in its multitude of styles and designs. Lighting designers range from massive multinational suppliers to bedroom designers and finding a lighting consultant or interior designer who is skilled at lighting can make a huge difference to how your home interior is perceived once complete.
Ideally an interior room, say a lounge, should be lit using a variety of lights, allowing for the home owner to adjust the lighting depending on their requirements and mood. Using a mixture of large ceiling lighting and corner spot or focus lights, combined with matching switches and fittings will allow for a desirable effect.
Finding a lighting supplier who knows their stuff is essential in this mix, whether it is a trade supplier electrical firm (generally happy to supply to the public, just ask nicely!) or a dedicated lighting consultant is generally worth spending the extra money as ideally your house will be rewired, electricians (Part P of course) called in and lighting manufacturers contacted. Remember when ordering bespoke Murano glass lighting or other similar quality products, that you will be paying a great deal to enter into this historical area and may have to wait for weeks to take delivery of your new light fittings.
